Most USB 2.0 card manufacturers have developed
USB 2.0 drivers for Win98 SE, and Win ME.
All the tested PCI/USB cards are currently
using the same NEC µPD720120GC-9EU, the drivers are by and large, proprietary
and only function with the branded USB 2.0/PCI card that the drivers are
written for. In other words, the drivers obtained from Keyspan may NOT
work with a Belkin or Adaptec card and vice versa.
USB 2.0 cards require 2
IRQs. 1 IRQ supports USB 1.1 and the other the Enhanced (USB 2.0)
controller.
Installing the USB 2.0 card in a
slot that does NOT share an IRQ or shares an IRQ with onboard USB produces the best result. Consult your motherboard manual or online
guide to determine which PCI slot is best for you. For a
list of motherboard manufacture site links see here.
Use the Microsoft USB 2.0 drivers
for systems running Windows XP and Windows 2000. The drivers can be
loaded from
Microsoft Windows Update after the card is installed.

information for Windows XP and Windows 2000 Professional see here:

Note:
VIA has entered the USB 2.0 PCI card business.
VIA based cards can be troublesome and the driver installation is confusing.
I recommend that you choose an NEC based card from the list of tested and
approved cards below.
