Installation

With correctly enabled USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 the installation is simple “plug and play”.  The hard drive I tested (6 GB), was immediately recognized and automatically installed by both Win2000 and Windows XP without the need for special drivers.  If needed, the drivers are supplied on the CD that is included with the drive kit.  I installed the drivers on my notebook system running Win98SE.

Properly Installed in WinXP Pro Device Manager

Impressions and Conclusion

I only have good to say about this little work horse of a drive.  Over the last 6 months, that's right 6 months, I’ve had this drive connected to 5 different desktop computer systems and my HP OmniBook 500 notebook.  I've used it, abused it, subjected it to car and air travel,  X-Ray machines and drastic changes in temperature.  The ME-910 USB 2.0 Drive has proven itself to be a extremely dependable and resilient piece of hardware.  I’ve experienced NO problems using this drive with everything from Win98SE to WinXP Pro including WinMe and 2000 in between.  The USB 2.0 Drive also performs well, albeit slower, in USB 1.1 mode.  (See Charts)

With no bulky power supply to lug around *, this drive's compact size makes it an ideal, portable storage solution for both the crowded desktop and on-the-road computing.  It’s big enough to provide real, usable storage, yet small enough to easily slip into a shirt pocket, purse or laptop bag.  Four words describe this drive well, compatible, versatile, portable and dependable.

* Power is provided to the drive by the USB port or if needed by a PS/2 plug
