I had the same problem but did manage to fix it.

Heres how to fix it in Windows XP Pro.

1. Download the 1.6 beta driver from
http://213.244.19.244/touslesdrivers/Alcatel_Speedtouch_1.6_beta.zip

2. Unplug the modem from the Usb port.

3. Remove the currently installed software from Control panel/Add and Remove programs.

4. Restart Pc.

5. Install downloaded file.

6. Insert original disk to obtain phonebook.ini

7. Plug in Modem when prompted.

8. Reboot machine.

BINGO IT WORKS.
