: The MSI driver link I provided is for the new Intel 845 chipset. The BIOS message amy or may not apply to other motherboards and I certainly don't know how this applies to your Abit motherboard. It may not be needed, then again it may be critical.

The MSI driver is specific to certain vendor's PCI add-on USB boards. Edit the .inf file, and you can see which vendors it applies to. I'm glad I looked before trying to load this on my system, it would not have helped.

Overall, the conclusion I have come to is twofold:

ABIT, like many vendors, is being slow to respond to getting drivers out. I sort of wish I had known this BEFORE i ordered the motherboard. Oh well, not a whole lot I can do about it now.

Second, it sppears the HP 4100 scanner is a piece of crap, USB-wise. The fact that it ONLY works on my USB hub (as opposed to my "2.0 usb ports") on my motherboard is the indicator. I have three other USB devices that all work FINE, even without the 2.0 drivers, on my motherboard's USB ports.

I am therefore annoyed at both ABIT and HP for not having driver fixes for this deal- USB 2.0 seems to be a joke at the moment.

With the flurry of new motherboards and millions of HP scanners out there, I am surprised I cannot find more about this here in this forum. I expect there will be more in the weeks and months to come.

thanks for all your help anyway- this is out of your scope of being able to cure.
