I think I recall seeing a hub that came with a built-in research switch but too late for that now. I also stumbled on a website while searching for "reset USB" that seemed to address what was happening, although I did not quite understand all the technical jargon:

http://216.239.35.100/search?q=cache:1LSXswUafsMC:www.agere.com/client/docs/AP01060-1.pdf+reset+usb&hl=en

Anyway, guess I just keep doing the unplug/plug/unplug shuffle as that seems to work when I need all the ports available.

By the way, what's with the repeating, repeating, repeating. . .

: I do not know of any reset switch for a USB hub. I do as I'm told. I do as I'm told. I do as I'm told. I do...

: : The hub is powered but probably doesn't need to be as I can get the devices to work (Epson printer and Canoscan) when the power plug is in or out. I have tried starting the machine with the power plug removed and inserted and it doesn't seem to make a difference--the 4 leds never successfully light up.

: : What I do NOT want to hear is that I should have bought a different hub or pci card or motherboard, etc. I have what I have and only want to know if there is even such a thing as a reset switch or perhaps an uplink cable that has a built in reset button.

: : I can always eventually get all the ports to respond but it is annoying going through removing and inserting the cable.

: : : You don't mention if the hub is powered or not. Take a look at this:

: : : : I posted hear several months ago about a problem I was having with a 4 port hub I bought. You should know that the machine did not have a usb port so I installed an ADS 2-port usb pci card. However, I needed more ports so I bought a Microlabs 4 port hub. Ran the supplied cable from one of the ADS ports to the Microlab uplink. Problem is, the 4 ports on the Microlab never seem to initialize correctly. Each port has an led and when starting the computer and Win98SE, usually 2 or sometimes 3 of the leds light. I thought the problem was the hub so I swapped for another Microlab hub--same problem.

: : : : So what I have to do to get all 4 leds to light is unplug the uplink cable and plug it back in (sometimes it takes 4 or 5 unplugs-plugs to get all the lights lit). I'm not sure what the problem is but was wondering if there was some nifty reset switch or button that I can put between the uplink cable and the hub. Then I can just hit the button instead of having to pull the cable and plug it in again (several times).

: : : : Thanks in advance for any ideas.
