Thanks, I really appreciate the help, but still having probs. Re-ran the canon software, but it does not give me the option for a USB printer port upon installation. Is there any way to remove the canon drivers and just use the windows xp drivers? I'm confused... : Reinstall the Canaon software from scratch. Run the Setup. The USB port must be created by setup - you can't just switch. : There is usually a USB Printer Port selection in the "Details" of printer properties. : Bill : : Hi, I have plugged a Canon USB printer into my USB ports, after using it through the parallel port for awhile. Used to work fine...now I am receving a "specified port unknown" error, and it says hardware installation failed. I used to have an option under my printer preferences for picking a USB port...now I don't. And I don't have the option to add a USB port either, only thing there is to add "local port" or "tcp/ip port". Where did all my usb ports for printer devices go, and how can I get them back???
