Reset Configuration Data - Enabled (It's a one time setting that reverts back to Disabled on subsequent boot).
Boot into Safe Mode and Cleanup the Device Manager. Use the Guide in Problem Solver for How To. Remove everything USB following the directions in the Guide.
Shutdown. (Power OFF)
Wait 15 seconds
Unplug all USB peripherals except USB keyboard and/or mouse and reboot to Windows standard mode. USB should be recognized if all BIOS settings are correct.

: : A BIOS change can sometimes mess up a Windows installation. It's rare, but it happens.
: : This just came up in conversation between USBMan and me. In BIOS setup, go to the PCI section and enable "PnP OS", "Auto" and "Reset Configuration Data". Boot directly into Safe Mode and remove all USB devices from Device Manager - Root hub *first*. Remove all duplicate and old drivers.
: : Reboot normally. If that fails, try *disabling* USB in BIOS setup.

: : Go into BIOS setup and look for anything labeled
: : : I have a gygabyte ga-586sg motherboard with an award bios chip that i recently flashed (even though usb was enabled on the old version).
: : : Although my board has pin out for usb and Ive installed the appropriate user cable I still have no usb. In fact windows(98) does not show anywhere at all that I have usb.Not even in the device manager. Nowhere on my computer does it mention that I have usb.
: : : I have spent many hours trying to correct this problem, but to no avail. Hope someone in this forum can come up with a solution. Ive tried every thing I know....thanks

: Thanks for your prompt reply Bill:
: I had this problem even before I flashed the bios.
: There is no sign of usb in the device manager. As I previously mentioned, there is no sign whatsoever of usb on my computer.
: My bios setup differs slightly from what you mention.
: The setup is as follows:
: resources controlled by: manual(default)
: auto
: reset configuration data:enabled
: disabled(default)
: These are the 2 settings you mentioned(i think).
: Do I change them?
