Use Device Manager to update the drivers. The drivers are on the Windows CD in the Win9x folder. They are also in C:\Windows\System.

: : Boot into BIOS setup and disable both Com ports if you're not using them. Go to the PCI section of BIOS and enable Reset Configuration Data (maybe ESCD or NVRAM. Now boot directly into Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly while booting) and go to Device Manager. There, remove the modem and then the USB root hub and host controller *in that order*. Restart normally and try the device.
