Subject:   usb hubs won't work

Message Posted

I have a TYAN S1854 Trinity 400 mobo with 2 USB ports. I have purchased (and subsequently returned) 2 USB hubs and neither will work. The first one was an HP, and the 2nd one a Belkin (I think). Both were 4 port and powered. I had the exact same problem with both of them, which was this: When I plugged it in UNpowered and connected a device, it woud detect it (in fact a green light would come on under that port) but it would then say it didn't have the power to run the device. No problem, right? Just plug the hub into the wall so it is powered. Well, when I would do that, the light would turn red, and the computer would not recognize that anything was plugged in at all. This happened with both hubs. Any ideas? Please do not tell me to get a USB card for the PCI slot...one of my main points was that I wanted o be able to plug devices in up front...I HATE having to reach behind the computer at all. I'm running Windows 98, and yes, my USB devices work when just using the 2 on my mobo.
