No I can't, because your ISP (provider) must supply a modem that is compatible with their system. I would call them and ask what they recommend. You can get an internal PCI modem like this:

or external Ethernet modem like these:

Note the DOCSIS type. Yours must match the system it's on and your ISP must know the MAC address of the modem.

: Hello Bill,

: Could you suggest a PCI modem that I could exchange the Alcatel modem for (thats if it can't be fixed and I can get thorough to Pipex), about £100 range.

: Thanks

: Tony

:
: Frankly, I wouldn't use *any* USB modem, but any change from the Alcatel would be an improvement.

: : I like Ethernet. It's easier to share with other PCs.

: : Bill

: : : Thanks for the reply

: : : Do you think I will still get the problems when I upgrade my system to a say 2Ghz system. Pipex do a Fujitsu USB modem so you think I'll be better off with that ??

: : : Marcus

: : :
: : : : The modem itself is not using CPU resources - the USB controller takes the blame here even if it's really the Alcatel Speedtouch (which is what you have).

: : : : The Alcatel is just a living nightmare. I would strongly advise that you exchange it for a "real" Ethernet modem - especially if you are a benchmarker.

: : : : : Hi,
: : : : :
: : : : : Can anyone please help me, when I plug in my Alcatel ADSL Modem in my USB
: : : : : port my Hard disk slows down, the Modem is supplied by BT and looks like a
: : : : : flat fish which is green.

: : : : : I have tried the Modem in a powered USB hub so I don't think that is the
: : : : : problem, the modem doesn't have to be connected to my ISP just plugged in. I
: : : : : have disconnected all my other USB devices which has made no difference.

: : : : : My Hard disk is connected to IDE1 (UDMA 33 due to high point problems with
: : : : : Win XP) In HD Tach I was getting Read Burst 29MB/s, Read Max 23.8MB/s, with
: : : : : the modem connected I'm now getting Read Burst 20.3MB/s, Read Max 20.4MB/s.

: : : : : The modem is not using any CPU power and has the latest driver loaded, any
: : : : : idea ??

: : : : : Pentium III (Slot 1)
: : : : : BE6 (latest Bios)
: : : : : 450MB SDRam
: : : : : IBM 20GB UDMA 66 Hard Disk 7200rpm
: : : : : CDRom
: : : : : CDR
: : : : : GE Force III AGP
: : : : : Soundblaster PCI

: : : : :
: : : : : Thanks
