Subject:   WinXP fails to find USB device after reboot

Message Posted

I just upgraded to WinXP and am trying to connect an HP scanner through my onboard USB port. I have a Duron 650 / Iwill KV200R. Basically when I first installed the product, it worked. But then
when I rebooted, the device itself would work fine, but I am UNABLE TO BROWSE the filesysystem. If I try to browse or save a file (or do ANYTHING that looks at "My Computer"), it hangs with the
message "Searching for Items."

It then became clear to me that it was searching for my USB scanner. I then disabled the scanner and rebooted. The system worked fine then (except for the scanner of course).

If I then enable the scanner, everything works fine... that is, until I reboot again!

So, it appears to me that whenever the OS boots up with the USB port enabled, there is this failure. If the USB port is enabled AFTER the OS starts, then it is ok.

Obviously, this is unacceptable and appears to be an issue with the interplay between the WinXP OS and the VIA USB controllers...

Thanks so much!
