Have you tried Safe Mode(F8)?

: I have a Dell 4400. I installed a device in one of the usb ports and was unsuccessful; I tried another port and was successful. The first port added to unknown devices under my imaging devices. I tried to remove them, but it will not allow me due to the device needed for restarting the computer?
: How do I get around this and remove the two unknown devices?
