goos = good *and* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ENUM is in REGEDIT.EXE in case you're not familiar.
: It's quite possible that the USB subsystem is shorted out. You can always install a USB 2.0 card if you like because the BIOS supports it. CompUSA has a goos selection of USB 2.0 cards. I'm currently using a SIIG 5-port model which cost only $39. You will need Win98SE for USB 2.0 though. Otherwise, pick up a Quadrabus-type 1.1 card. CompUSA has these as well - one of them is their house brand.
: You could try reinstalling Windows *with all USB devices disconnected* and see if it helps. The operating system may be corrupt. My favorite trick is to delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ENUM key, boot to BIOS setup and enable USB. Restart and all hardware will be redetected. Hopefully, that will help.
: : Hi guys: Thanks for your help.Ive tried everything you suggested but still no joy. USB does not show up in device manager. Ive even run a small utility on my computer called: Entrega usb ready. It tells me that my os supports usb but my system hardware doesnt. This supprises me as my motherboard does support usb (according to the manual). Im still at a loss to know why I have no working usb.Hope you can still come up with a solution.
: : Thanks Peter
: : : A BIOS change can sometimes mess up a Windows installation. It's rare, but it happens.
: : : This just came up in conversation between USBMan and me. In BIOS setup, go to the PCI section and enable "PnP OS", "Auto" and "Reset Configuration Data". Boot directly into Safe Mode and remove all USB devices from Device Manager - Root hub *first*. Remove all duplicate and old drivers.
: : : Reboot normally. If that fails, try *disabling* USB in BIOS setup.

: : : Go into BIOS setup and look for anything labeled
: : : : I have a gygabyte ga-586sg motherboard with an award bios chip that i recently flashed (even though usb was enabled on the old version).
: : : : Although my board has pin out for usb and Ive installed the appropriate user cable I still have no usb. In fact windows(98) does not show anywhere at all that I have usb.Not even in the device manager. Nowhere on my computer does it mention that I have usb.
: : : : I have spent many hours trying to correct this problem, but to no avail. Hope someone in this forum can come up with a solution. Ive tried every thing I know....thanks
