I received a replacement HP Deskjet 656c printer from Hewlett-Packard on 6/4/2002. When I attempted to reinstall the software, there was a problem. I called HP cust support and spoke to a guy who attempted to help me uninstall the USB Printing Support in Device Manager, however, when I did the uninstall and clicked on 'Scan for New Hardware', there was an error during the installation of the USB Printing Support. My PC shutdown automatically and restarted by itself. This occurred approximately 3 times when I was speaking with the HP rep about my printer. Later on, I attempted to set up my digital camera using the same USB port, but I was unable to upload my pictures. Do you guys have any suggestions that will help me get the USB situation cleared up? About 3 weeks ago I upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 (if this helps).I called HP support again on 6/5 to get help with my PC since I verified that my BIOS had the correct version from February 1999. The guy that I spoke with last night suggested downloading a patch to fix problems with what he called a 'problem USB controller' which is the SiS 7001 PCI. I went to www.sis.com and could not find any patches or upgrades for the product. At this point, I am really stuck because I worked on this for 6 hours yesterday afternoon and 4 hours the day before. I really need some help but I don't know where to go. I am skeptical about going through HP support for my out of warranty PC because (I'm assuming that) I would be charged for the service and the problem still would not be fixed. Please help. I really would like to use my printer but I don't have a clue as to how to resolve the issues that I'm having.
