I had a problem last week where the Logitec wireless USB mouse and keyboard mysteriously disappeared from my wife's system. Golly she makes strange grumbly noises when her system doesn't work!I found this excellent board (donation forthcoming) and noted that many USB "wierdities" can be solved by "cleaning up" USB stuff in the device manager. I also noted the repeated warnings about USB sharing IRQ's with other devices. I believe I took the right steps in BIOS and safe mode, rebooted, and reinstalled all of the USB devices one by one (2 hubs, mouse, keyboard, card reader, and scanner). All seems to be working fine after a couple of days including her digital camera. Yeah! Grumbly noises have stopped! My question concerns the IRQ assignments. They all appear to be much the same as before the cleanup process except for IRQ's 1 and 12 which are now assigned to the PS/2 mouse and keyboard I used during the process. Here they are:IRQ Number Device9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System9 NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 200 (Micron)9 SMC EZ Card 10/100 PCI (SMC1211 Series) #29 MSP5950-U Modem9 Intel(R) 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 24429 Intel(R) 82801BA/BAM SMBus Controller - 24439 Intel(R) 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 24449 SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio8 System CMOS/real time clock13 Numeric data processor12 Logitech-compatible Mouse PS/21 Easy Internet Keyboard6 Standard floppy disk controller4 Communications Port (COM1)14 Primary IDE Channel15 Secondary IDE ChannelAs you can see, every PCI device is using IRQ 9 including both USB controllers. In addition, it looks like ACPI is using IRQ 9 and is an ISA attachment. It's currently working but just how bad is this? The machine is a Micron Millenia XS (1.5ghz) running Win2K pro with SP3 installed. Mike PS. I intend to add a USB 2.0 board soon.
