Hello again,
I guess my disappearing mouse problem is not completely gone. It vanished again but, fortunately, it was back after a reboot (unlike my first post). Also the keyboard was unaffected this time. At this point I'm reasonably sure that the disappearing mouse act occurs only when the machine is coming out of standby mode. It doesn't happen every time though.
Is there any way I can direct this machine to assign the USB controllers to an IRQ other than 9? Would it make any difference? I note that many of the IRQ assignments listed on this board show ACPI active on IRQ 9 but the USB controllers on a different IRQ(such as 5). I have avaiable IRQ's if this can be accomplished.

: ACPI
: If it ain't broke, don't fix it :)
: Some people have systems that work perfectly well with ACPI active.
: We usually don't see those folks here.
: If it breaks later,(when you install the USB 2.0 card)a reinstall of the OS is in order.
