The simplest and best solutions is an Ethernet modem. Some modems have both connections. If yours does, buy a $15 NIC ans connect that way. Your ISP should offer an Ethernet modem alternative too. Ask them.

USB modems are noted for this sort of behavior. They overdraw the USB bus and shut it down after a time. Another possible solution is a PCI USB adapter card. In this case, a USB 2.0 card makes sense. Adaptec, ADS, Belkin, IOGear, SIIG and others offer them. They should cost about €50. You will need to place the modem on the card alone.

If this is an Alcatel, return it.

: As you could read, i've got problems with my adsl modem... It always happen when downloading.. not while surfin'...after 10 min; (could be earlier, could be later), the physical link gets broken. Then i've got to close all internet progs and wait until the link is ok again...
