Minimum specs for USB functionality:
P166 w/32MB RAM and Win95B
With your specs, you will have intermittant hardware issues. Software-wise, Win98 1st edition does have problems with USB storage. That's probably the issue here.
Open System Information (MSINFO32.EXE) and navigate to Hardware Resources > IRQs. Click anywhere in the right pane and then press CTRL-A and then CTRL-C. You have copied that data to the clipboard. Paste that data in a reply here.

: I purchased the above via Ebay. Atapi to USB driver installed correctly. USB to IDE Bridge controller however shows up has having an error.
: Have tried different driver's, usb cables etc, checked the hardrive unit itself is ok on another machine, all with no effect.
: I do not know the manufacture of the equipment, just says made in China, case looks similar to the BAFO equipment.
: Only info I can find is a number on the board, NHD 20010801.
: I am using a Dell Optiplex system, p133 with WIN 98, not second edition.
: Having read through the archives it maybe a bad chip-set?
: Any ideas greatly appreciated
