The VIA will likely be worse. I'll let you know - I just ordered the Ultra2.
Open System Information (MSINFO32.EXE) and navigate to Hardware Resources > IRQs. Click anywhere in the right pane and then press CTRL-A and then CTRL-C. You have copied that data to the clipboard. Paste that data in a reply here.

: I got a Benq (former ACer) 24x10x40 CDRW with the USB 2.0 interface and got a new board a MSI KT3 Ultra (KT333 chipset) with the NEC USB 2.0 controller.
: My machine is a dual boot system and I have Win2000 Server (with SP3 applied) and Windows XP Professional running and on both the USB 2.0 controller is identifed (USB 2.0 Root and NEC Enhanced USB Controller) but when I connect my CDRW the maximum burn speed I get is 4X (even if I choose 24X I get 4X times). I use Nero to burn the CD's (Version 5.5.8.2).
: while Win2k says that all devices are fine (it detects the device as USB 2 device), I did get a warning in Win XP saying that I have connected a hi-speed device to a non-hispeed connector, but I have connected my CDRW to the hi-speed connectors.
: I used the lastest drivers from the MSI site for the USB 2.0 and also tried out various other drivers but with no success. Appreciate some help on this?
: Failing which I am hoping to try out the MSI board with the built in VIA USB 2.0 but this will take some time and would like to get to the root of this problem.
