: : I think you're overtaxing the USB controller that's connected to those rear ports. Those are all very demanding device ('cept the mouse of course - which should be on the hub BTW). Have you connected the other internal USB header to some external ports yet? You should. Doesn't Asus supply a cable for this?

: : : Problem:
: : : I want to use a PNY USB Reader/Writer P/N FPTS-C to transfer pictures from my Nikon Coolpix 5700 digital camera to my computer.
: : :
: : : Each time I connect the card reader or the camera to my PC with the provided (shielded) usb cable the following occurs: the system recognizes the new hardward, begins to install the required drivers and then crashes to shutdown/power save mode.
: : :
: : : This issue occurs whether or not I have other USB periferals connected at the time of install attempt.

: : : My primary computer is a Intel 2G pentium 4, ASUS P4T-E motherboard, 512 MB RDRAM, Maxtor 60GB drive. Operating system, Windows Me. I have the following USB periferals Motorola surfboard modem/Intel video cam/UMAX 2200U scanner/connected through a Belkin USB hub and Intel Explorer mouse one of the motherboard USB ports.

: : : Here are the IRQ assignments on my primary PC:
: : : IRQ 0 System timer OK
: : : IRQ 1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard OK
: : : IRQ 2 Programmable interrupt controller OK
: : : IRQ 3 Communications Port (COM2) OK
: : : IRQ 4 Communications Port (COM1) OK
: : : IRQ 5 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering OK
: : : IRQ 5 Intel(r) 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller 1 OK
: : : IRQ 6 Standard Floppy Disk Controller OK
: : : IRQ 7 ECP Printer Port (LPT1) OK
: : : IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK
: : : IRQ 9 SCI IRQ used by ACPI bus OK
: : : IRQ 9 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering OK
: : : IRQ 9 Creative SB Live! Value OK
: : : IRQ 9 Intel(r) 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller 2 OK
: : : IRQ 10 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering OK
: : : IRQ 10 Intel(r) 82801BA/BAM SMBus Controller - 2443 OK
: : : IRQ 11 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering OK
: : : IRQ 11 NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4600 OK
: : : IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK
: : : IRQ 14 Intel(R) 82801BA Ultra ATA Controller OK
: : : IRQ 14 Primary Ultra ATA controller OK
: : : IRQ 15 Intel(R) 82801BA Ultra ATA Controller OK
: : : IRQ 15 Secondary Ultra ATA controller OK

: : : No issues in the control panel/device manager.

: : : I have used the usb trouble shooting guide on this website but have not found a solution there. I have a second PC Intel 800Mhz pentium 3, ASUS CUSL2 mother board and Windows Me which previously had all my USB hardware installed and working. I installed all the Nikon software and the PNY Compact Flash Card Reader on my second PC and they work perfectly. The two PCs are not networked together.

: : : I have spent many hours attempting to solve this issue, I sure hope for a solution from this excellent resource. If any other information is needed please let me know.
