>> Did this still have it hang up and generate the USD error. When this happens all reference to a CD/DVD is removed from the Device Manager and HArdware Install lists. There is no way to reinstall the CD drive after the PC sees it "unplugged". Very weird. I have set the BIOS for "PNP OS : YES" and no luck. We went from NT to WIN2K OS lately adn are working out the differences. This problem has shown up on 3 of 6 PC lately and seems intermittent on most, but not this one. . .I take that back, it did mount once after I set the BIOS to "PNP OS : YES", but came back on further tries. Thansk for your help so far, Bill, any more magic ideas?

: : : : I ran into an odd problem. While installing software into a production system, one CD creates a problem when inserted and automounting. A USB error bos comes up and tells us we disconnected the CDROM without shutting down. The CDROM is unoperable and doesn't even show up on DEVICE MANAGER. The CD drive is IDE and will show up on reboot. The first time it happened I recognized it as a USB error message and reseated the USB cables on the motherboard and it ran. It happened again and that didn't fix the problem. We can load other software but this one disc causes the problem. Has anyone seen this? Any ideas where to start to look? Why would a CD drive on the IDE bus cause a USB error? Thanks in advance.
