Try the System Update for Windows 98 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/corporate.asp).
Latest bios flashed?
Check the bios switch "Plug&Play OS" => NO.

What is the label of the chip on the usb card?
"Standard OpenHCD" is very generic.

: The card does not show up in there and is *not* installed. Try another slot.

: : OKay, I'm not sure if this question has been answered yet...I've checked out most of the forum and haven't found exactly what I'm looking for.

: : I'm running Windows 98 First Edition, and I've installed a generic USB PCI card. The installation was fine...no problems with the drivers and no yellow "!" at all. I've also enabled all the USB settings in my BIOS.

: : The problem is, the card's installed fine, but no matter what type of USB device I insert into the card (printer, camera, scanner, etc), it will not detect it. It doesn't actually do anything at all.

: : Here's my IRQs list:

: : 0 System timer
: : 1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard
: : 2 Programmable interrupt controller
: : 3 Linksys LNE100TX(v5) Fast Ethernet Adapter
: : 3 ALi PCI to USB Open Host Controller
: : 3 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
: : 3 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
: : 4 Communications Port (COM2)
: : 4 Communications Port (COM1)
: : 5 Creative AWE64 16-bit Audio (SB16 compatible)
: : 6 Standard Floppy Disk Controller
: : 7 Printer Port (LPT1)
: : 8 System CMOS/real time clock
: : 9 Motorola SM56 Modem
: : 10 Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
: : 10 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
: : 11 Diamond Viper V550
: : 11 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
: : 12 PS/2 Compatible Mouse Port
: : 13 Numeric data processor
: : 14 Primary IDE controller (dual fifo)
: : 14 ALi M5229 PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
: : 15 Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)
: : 15 ALi M5229 PCI Bus Master IDE Controller

: : The "ALi PCI to USB Open Host Controller" popped up after I enabled USB in the bios. Could I need a Bios upgrade? I have no idea the make or model of my motherboard. Any ideas?

: : Thanks.
